It is a New Year and there is so much to celebrate around the downtown of Guelph! Join us as we get excited about all of the various events, art and community that will be happening on Friday, January 27th from 7pm to 10pm! *FF* = Family Friendly, *A* = Accessible.

Beer Tasting

@ Baker Street Station (76 Baker Street)With Mill St. Brewery and will be featuring a local artist Nolan Ingram of Ingram Original Art

@ Van Gogh’s Ear (10 Wyndham Street North): Stop by to check out art by Jenna Short: “my art is very colorful and odd, lots of fun people and animals as well as shapes and patterns! if you like bright fun artwork and simple illustrations my arts for you.”

@ 10 Carden (10 Carden St):

Riverboyblue Improvised Soundscapes Fourth Friday's Guelph8:30pm – 10pm: riverboyblue only appears once in a very blue moon with his assortment of organic, free trade, local, handmade acoustic music played through loopers and other techno-toys.

His improvised soundscapes have become popular as accompaniment to dance and theatre works. Riverboyblue is sometimes known as James Gordon, but that’s just between you and I. *FF*

All night: Photo Exhibition “Celebrating Venice” by Annette Twist

Celebrating Venice by Annette Twist Fourth Friday's Guelph7pm – 8:30pm Come be part of an interactive art piece by Sarah Sienna I am an emerging artist living in Hamilton. I recently graduated from the University of Guelph Studio Art program with a specialization in drawing and photography. I work in many mediums, often combining them to create my finished work. I have recently been working in oil pastel using empty film canisters to create colourful and visually engaging drawings. Each drawing is titled based on what colours I used. *FF*

Ice Robots

@ Downtown: In keeping with the ice themed creations made on past fourth Fridays, Jessica will be placing four miniature Ice robots downtown. Find them if you can- before they melt. *FF*

Art Exhibit

Whitestone Gallery (80 Norfolk Street, Guelph): 14 great artists showing work. See ceramics by potter Goldie Sherman. We plan to have a coffee maker and cookies for visiting participants. 7pm – 10pm *FF*

Wine Tasting

Red Brick Cafe (8 Douglas Street, Guelph): Get a sheet with descriptions. $10 per person for 4 samples. 1 white & 3 reds from one country or varietal. Each month different wines. No reservations required. Impress your friends with your new wine knowledge! @5pm – 11pm

Tignanelli’s latest work reflects the error of 21st-century reliance on technology for maintaining relationships. Dwindling face-to-face communication is represented as intangible, dissociated, or mute figures in her work. She is completing a Studio Art BA at the University of Guelph. *FF*

Sound Off! 

@ Guelph Public Library [Main Branch, 2nd Floor] (100 Norfolk St): Come check it out! Bring your instrument and perform on the open mic.  Bring your poetry and slam in the competition.  Become a regular and compete to be on the 2012 Guelph Youth Poetry Slam team.  The Slam starts with a spoken word writing workshop from 5:30-6:30pm facilitated by our featured artists and Truth Is …  The open mic, youth slam, and feature performer happens from 6:30-8:30pm.
